Power Black Out Hits Four Counties Today

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced a scheduled power blackout across parts of Nairobi, Kisumu, Bungoma, and Nyeri Counties today, Saturday, October 25, 2025. The utility firm says the interruption is part of an ongoing maintenance and system upgrade program aimed at improving electricity reliability and reducing frequent outages across the country.

According to a statement issued by Kenya Power early Saturday morning, the planned power interruptions are expected to last several hours, with specific timelines varying across different counties.

In Nairobi County, areas along State House Road, Dennis Pritt, Likoni Lane, and Kitale Lane will experience a power outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The company noted that maintenance work in these regions will include transformer upgrades and network line replacement.

In Kisumu County, residents of Masogo, Onyalobiro Biro, Ombei, Othoo, Nger, and Ogilo have also been notified of a blackout scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The firm emphasized that the exercise is critical to ensuring stability and efficiency in power distribution in the lakeside region.

Meanwhile, in Bungoma and Nyeri Counties, the outage is expected to run during similar daytime hours, affecting selected estates and rural areas where engineers will be upgrading aging power lines.

“We urge all our customers in the affected areas to make the necessary arrangements and treat all electrical connections as live during the maintenance period,” Kenya Power advised through its official social media handles.

The blackout announcement has sparked mixed reactions online. While some Kenyans appreciate the effort to improve service delivery, others have expressed concern over the frequency of scheduled maintenance, saying it disrupts business operations and home routines.

Kenya Power, however, assured the public that these short-term inconveniences are necessary for long-term efficiency and system reliability, especially with the company’s ongoing modernization program aimed at supporting digital metering and smart grid technology.
