Miguna Miguna Questions Kalonzo’s Visit to Raila Odinga’s Opoda Farm

Lawyer and political activist Miguna Miguna has sharply criticized Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s recent visit to Raila Odinga’s Opoda Farm in Bondo, Siaya County. The visit, which was intended to honor the late Raila Odinga, has drawn public attention and sparked mixed reactions from both political figures and Kenyans online.

Miguna voiced his concerns through a strongly worded statement, arguing that the number of cattle and other gifts presented at Opoda was unnecessary, especially at a time when many Kenyans are grappling with poverty and unemployment. He questioned why so many resources were being used to impress political families while millions of citizens continue to lack basic needs.

According to Miguna, Kenya’s political culture has become one that glorifies political dynasties instead of prioritizing the welfare of ordinary citizens. He criticized symbolic gestures such as offering cattle, saying they hold little value when leaders fail to address pressing issues like the high cost of living, corruption, and poor service delivery.

“People are taking herds of cattle to Opoda to gain political favor, while ordinary Kenyans cannot afford school fees or food,” Miguna stated, describing the move as a clear case of misplaced priorities.

Many observers saw Kalonzo’s visit as a gesture of respect and reconciliation after years of political differences. However, Miguna maintained that genuine unity should be demonstrated through leadership that improves people’s lives—not through lavish displays of loyalty.

The visit has fueled debate online, with some Kenyans agreeing with Miguna’s stance, while others defended Kalonzo’s actions as a cultural and political sign of respect.

As the country heads toward the 2027 General Elections, such symbolic events are being closely watched by Kenyans eager to see whether their leaders will focus more on public service or on political showmanship.
