LITEIN BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO FACE DAMAGE COMPENSATION TO THE UPWARDS OF KSHS 137000 APART FROM USUAL FEE
In early September 2025, a wave of controversy swept through Litein Boys High School when the administration announced that every student would be required to pay a compensation fee of KSh 137,000. The decision came after a night of unrest in which a group of students allegedly vandalized school property, including dormitory windows, classroom furniture, and part of the administration block. The incident reportedly stemmed from grievances over strict school policies and what students described as poor communication from school leadership. In response, the school management held an emergency board meeting and, after assessing the cost of the damages, decided that the total bill would be divided equally among all students, regardless of their involvement in the unrest. This sparked outrage among parents and guardians, many of whom argued that it was unfair to penalize innocent students for the actions of a few. Social media buzzed with criticism, and local leaders were drawn into the matter, calling for a more transparent investigation. Despite the backlash, the school stood by its decision, stating that the damage had to be repaired quickly to ensure learning resumed without further interruption. As the debate raged on, some parents threatened legal action, while others reluctantly paid the fee, fearing their children would be sent home. The incident not only strained relations between the school and the community but also raised questions about collective punishment, student welfare, and accountability in Kenya’s boarding school system. Upto now the matter is yet to be resolved.
