KISII UNIVERSITY FEES HEADEACHE LOOMS

Kisii University Has Released A Fee Policy Memo To Avert A Looming Comrades Strike

After weeks of exposing Kisii University’s insensitive fee policy, the administration finally issued a memo claiming students only need to clear the household contribution.

But on the ground, that’s not the reality. Proof attached : a student who has already cleared the household contribution still can’t register for units because the government has not disbursed Ksh. 95,000. This means Kisii University is peddling fake news while disrespecting the very students raising these issues, and also tarnishing the name of trustworthy news sources who amplify these vulnerable voices.

Worse still, the university has been reallocating bursary funds to cover the government’s share, raising questions about whether they will they refund the excess to the student, or is this another scheme to eat?

The uni need to understand that comrades are simply demanding a clear breakdown of household vs government contribution. They have to draw the line between what belongs to students and what belongs to the state. And most importantly, they should allow those who have paid part of their household contribution to register for units.

Otherwise, how is a private and a profit making university such as MKU allowing students to register for units with balance? If required, they can bar them from exams later, but stop blocking their learning at registration. Meanwhile, pressure may continue to mount until these concerns are addressed fully!
