COMRADES ON CROSS-ROAD


The track record of Kenya since independence has more of downing tools and demonstration just for the interest of terminal welfare and agreements. As per now, the dons (university lecturers) under University and Academic Staff Union (U.A.S.U), are on strike after giving 7-day notice claiming the dishonour of Collective Bargaining Agreement (C. B. A) that was made between two parties; government and U.A.S.U officials. The strike led by U.A.SU Secretary General, Dr. Constantine Wasonga have paralyzed academic sessions across public universities in Kenya. However, Education Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Migos Ogamba made a speech claiming the release of KShs 2.5 billion for the implementation of the University lecturers phase 2 of the 2021-25 C.B.A, also urged withdrawal of the strike. The strike comes just after the commencement of an academic year 2025-26. The students from public universities in Kenya now in cross-roads as day 2 kicks in. Question remains, how many more strikes required for a permanent solution to be met? Affected students across the country have urged the government to find a permanent solution on the matter before it gets out of hand.
