Breaking News: Cholera Outbreak Warning at Maasai Mara University

Maasai Mara University, October 19, 2025
Students at Maasai Mara University are being urged to stay alert following reports of suspected cholera cases among several students earlier this week. Signs of the disease were first noticed on October 15, 2025, after a few students were admitted to the campus clinic with severe diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration classic symptoms linked to cholera infection.

According to early reports from the university health department, the situation is under close investigation, and medical officers are working to identify the source of the outbreak. The university administration has cautioned all students to practice high levels of hygiene, avoid uncovered or contaminated food, and ensure they drink only clean and treated water.

“We are calling on every student to take this matter seriously. Early prevention is the best defense. If you notice any symptoms, report immediately to the nearest health center,” said a statement from the campus health office.

Cholera, a waterborne disease, spreads quickly in areas where sanitation and water safety are compromised. Health officials have already begun disinfecting key areas within the campus and surrounding hostels to contain the spread.

Students are strongly advised to:

Wash hands regularly with soap and clean water.

Avoid eating food sold in unsanitary places.

Drink only boiled or chlorinated water.

Report any suspected cases immediately to university health authorities.

As investigations continue, the university community is urged to remain calm but cautious. Further updates will be issued as the situation develops.
