A SUCCESSFUL BOOT CAMP

Journalism Students Gathered to Shape the Future of Media at in Maasai Mara University on 13th day, Sept 2025.

Hundreds of aspiring journalists from across the country converged in Maasai Mara University under the efforts gathered by JSAK, a vibrant platform aimed at nurturing the next generation of media professionals. The event brought together journalism students and seasoned media practitioners for a whole day exchange of ideas, mentorship and hands-on training.

Under the theme “Redefining Journalism in the Digital Age,” the camp featured panel discussions, keynote speeches, and practical workshops designed to equip students with skills relevant to the evolving media landscape. Topics ranged from media ethics and fact-checking to the role of artificial intelligence in journalism and the rise of digital storytelling.

“This summit is not just a meeting; it’s a movement,” said JSAK Chairperson [Insert Name if known]. “We’re building a community of responsible, innovative journalists ready to uphold the truth in a complex media environment.”

Participants had the opportunity to interact with experienced journalists and editors from leading media houses, who offered real-world insights into the challenges and opportunities facing the industry. Maasai Mara University was well represented, with a delegation of enthusiastic students engaging in making inquiries, pitching story ideas, and networking with peers from other institutions.

One of the most impactful sessions focused on press freedom and safety for journalists in conflict zones. Attendees were challenged to think critically about the power of the press and the responsibility that comes with it. Practical workshops on mobile journalism investigative reporting, and podcast production gave students valuable hands-on experience.

As the summit concluded, participants left with renewed passion and a clearer vision of the path ahead. “I feel more confident about my future in journalism,” said Angella Shammah, a student from Maasai Mara University. “This experience has sharpened my skills and broadened my perspective.”

With the media industry rapidly transforming, platforms like JSAK are proving essential in preparing journalism students to become ethical, informed, and adaptable professionals.
