liverpool fc suffers third consecutive defeat in premier at Anfield

Manchester United have beaten Liverpool 2-1 in the Premier League at Anfield.Harry Maguire got the winning goal for Ruben Amorim’s side in the 84th minute, heading a Bruno Fernandes cross into the bottom corner.

It was a game that started perfectly for the visitors with Bryan Mbeumo lashing in the opener with exactly 60 seconds on the clock.

But they were pegged back in the 78th minute when Cody Gakpo, who had hit the post three times, equalised from close range.

Maguire popped up in the penalty area to restore United’s lead and he led their defence in closing out a massive victory. It is the first time Amorim has won consecutive Premier League matches since taking over at Old Trafford.

Liverpool don’t have long to feel sorry for themselves. On Wednesday, they travel to Germany to face Hugo Ekitike’s former side Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.

A tough test away from home, that. Their next league match sees them face Brentford on the road on Saturday.

Manchester United, without the burden of European football this season, have nearly a full week of rest before their next match. As Harry Maguire mentioned, they host Brighton at Old Trafford next Saturday.
