FOOTBALL INDUSTRY MOURNS: ROGER LUKAKU DIES AT 58
It is with heavy heart that we recount the sudden passing of Roger Menama Lukaku, who departed this world on 28 September 2025 in his native Kinshasa, at the age of 58. A former forward of note, Roger’s journey in football saw him don the colors of clubs such as KV Oostende, KV Mechelen, Germinal Ekeren, and Seraing, among others, forging a name for himself in Belgian football during the 1990s.
Roger was born on 6 June 1967 in Kinshasa, DR Congo, and he was more than just a footballer. He was a father, mentor, and inspiration—particularly to his sons, Romelu and Jordan Lukaku—both of whom followed in his footsteps into professional football. In public tributes, Romelu wrote poignantly: “Thank you for teaching me everything I know. Life will never be the same… Protecting and guiding me like no one else could.”
Though Roger’s later life was marked by challenges, including financial hardship, it never erased the footprint he left on the pitch nor the influence he had over those around him. His passing has sent waves of grief throughout the football community; federations, clubs, teammates and fans have extended condolences to the Lukaku family.
To the Lukaku family, and especially to Romelu and Jordan: I extend my deepest and most sincere condolences. May you find strength and solace in the memories, love, and teachings your father left behind. In his honour, may his legacy continue through every goal, every stride, and every young dreamer who looks to him as inspiration.
